English Language Instruction
Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
The ability to understand and speak English enables newcomers to fully participate in life in Canada. In the Canadian labour market, English is a must and a second language is an asset. Individuals destined for the labour market, regardless of level of expertise, need to be able to read, write and speak English.
Classes are available for Permanent Residents, Ministerial Permit Holders or individuals who have been recognized as a Convention Refugees. The Centre offers various part-Dates and Time and full-Dates and Time classes ranging from Literacy/Level 1 to Level 4. The Language Training program's curriculum focuses on building day-to-day English language skills with emphasis on orientation and information for newcomers about Canadian systems and services. Computers are available to assist and enhance English language acquisition.
In order to improve access to language instruction and training, the centre offers free Care for Newcomer Children services to eligible participants as well as transportation assistance.
