Building Brighter Summers Together: Youth Dept and CRRP Unite
Every child deserves a safe, joyful, and enriching summer.
Laughter echoed across the playground as campers raced across the soccer field, conquered the monkey bars, and eagerly lined up for another turn down the slides, embracing the simple joys of another summer camp morning.
As the day unfolded, the excitement shifted indoors, where creativity took center stage. Armed with colourful paper, markers, and cotton, campers designed and crafted their own plushies, proudly comparing their creations and helping one another bring their ideas to life. The next day, children enjoyed a taste of fun as they learned basic baking skills and made and decorated their own mini cupcakes with frosting and sprinkles.

Each summer, Rexdale Women's Centre offers engaging camps for children, tweens, and teens. This year, we took the experience even further by bringing together our Youth team and Community Reduced and Reused program, combining the expertise of multiple departments to create a one-of-a-kind camp experience. One of the week's highlights was a hands-on STEAM activity led by the Community Reduce and Reuse team, where campers transformed foam cups, small motors, and markers into dancing robots. As the robots buzzed and spun across the page, they created colourful, one-of-a-kind works of art while teaching children how creativity, engineering, and sustainability can come together in fun and unexpected ways.
Camp helps each child grow in their own unique way by providing opportunities to explore new interests, develop practical skills, and discover their strengths through fun, engaging activities. Along the way, children build confidence and form meaningful friendships based on shared experiences and common interests.

Summer camp also provides invaluable support for parents and caregivers. While children spend their days learning, exploring, and making lasting memories, parents can go to work or manage other responsibilities knowing their children are in a safe environment. For many families, finding reliable childcare during the summer can be a significant challenge, and summer camp helps ease that burden. With trusted staff and caring counsellors looking after their children, parents gain peace of mind, allowing them to focus on their day with confidence while their children enjoy a fun and enriching summer experience.
This program provides local children with opportunities they might not otherwise have during the summer. It offers a safe, welcoming, and reliable environment where they can have fun, learn new skills, build friendships, and simply enjoy being kids.
Blessing, one of the children from the camp, said:
“I love being at the summer camp because I get to help with the food and everything. I think kids should come here because the staff are very nice”.
This is what Rexdale Women's Centre's Summer Camp brings to the community: happy children, caring staff, and a safe, engaging environment where kids can learn, play, build confidence, and create lasting friendships while parents enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing their children are safe and supported.
More than just a summer camp, it reflects Rexdale Women's Centre's mission to create a welcoming community where children and families can learn, grow, connect, and thrive together.
