Children’s Services
Preschool Program: The Preschool program provides structured early learning activities for children from 2 to 5 years of age whose parents are registered and attending English as a Second Language classes with the Rexdale Women’s Centre.
The program assists children to ease into kindergarten classes with little or no anxiety.
School Readiness: The School Readiness program provides children from 2 to 6 years of age, who are new to the country, with opportunities to develop language skills, early literacy,
creativity, cognitive, sensory and motor skills, to help them succeed in the school system. Parents accompany their children to the program, and learn about their child’s development needs
as well as acquiring new skills themselves or brush up on existing skills.
Family Drop-In: The Family Drop-In program is designed for children from 2 to 12 years of age and their parents.
The program provides children with the opportunity to develop skills in language, cognitive development, sensory development, creativity and gross motor skills development.
This program is designed for newcomer children and their parents who have limited knowledge of English language. While children are busy learning and creating,
parents are involved in workshops and seminars that develop better parenting skills. Parents learn more about their children’s development and are encouraged to use these
techniques at home in order to continue the growth of newly acquired skills and at the same time foster positive learning opportunities for their children.
Occasional Child Care Program (OCC): In order to assist newcomer families in accessing and benefitting from services, the Rexdale Women’s Centre offers Occasional
Child care by providing safe supervision. The program is for children from 19 months to 14 years of age. Children attend the program while parents participate and benefit from services.
Rexdale Women’s Centre believes that children must have the opportunity to explore and develop in a caring, safe and stimulating environment.
The program provides activities that foster creativity, curiosity, independence, interaction, communication and respect for others.
